WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, observed annually on the third Monday in January, commemorates the birthday of this visionary leader and serves as a time for reflection, education, and community engagement; and,

WHEREAS, in recognition of the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a day of service, the City of Monroe encourages residents to treat it as a "day on" rather than a day off, engaging in acts of kindness, community service, and volunteerism to honor Dr. King's teachings and principles; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Monroe acknowledges the power of collective action and encourages individuals, organizations, and businesses to participate in service projects that contribute to the betterment of our community, fostering a spirit of unity, understanding, and compassion among our residents;
