On June 25, 2024, Sgt. Shawn Parler, the City of Monroe’s first female sergeant, retired with 30 years of service.
Parler’s career with the Monroe Police Department started in 1994 as a public safety officer. At that time, public safety officers handled firefighting and policing.
Over the course of Parler’s long career in public service, she served as a patrol officer, narcotics officer, became the City’s first female sergeant (2000), training sergeant, and finished her career as a sergeant in the Special Service Division (School Resource Officers).
Parler had many more achievements including Officer of the Year (1999), Customer Service Award (2000), coordinating National Night Out and the D.A.R.E. program in schools.
“Sgt. Parler has served the Monroe Police Department and her City well over 30 years. We couldn’t be more proud of her and the impact she’s had on this community. We wish her all the best in her retirement,” said Police Chief J. Bryan Gilliard.
