The City of Monroe Water Resources Department will be conducting a utility improvement project for one week beginning on or around Monday, June 3, 2024, just east of the intersection at Charles Street and East Sunset Drive.  

The construction division will be installing approximately 40 linear feet of 36-inch steel casing pipe intended for use on a water main project slated for 2025/2026. The water main project will be in conjunction with a planned water storage structure to enhance water service to customers in this area. 

This project is scheduled in coordination with a planned NCDOT paving project. During the week of June 3, East Sunset Drive will be closed to through traffic. Detours will be set-up to direct traffic around the work area by the use of Charles Street, East Franklin Street and East Sunset Drive.

All construction activities are anticipated to conclude by Friday, June 7, 2024.

All damaged/disturbed items will be restored or replaced at the end of the project. We apologize in advance for any inconveniences experienced during our construction.
